Nestmark is a browser extension for highlighting text on web pages. This policy explains what the extension does with your data. The short version: Nestmark keeps everything on your device. It collects nothing and sends nothing anywhere.
What Nestmark stores
When you highlight text, Nestmark saves the following locally in your browser's extension storage (chrome.storage.local / browser.storage.local):
- the highlighted text, a small amount of the text around it, and its position in the page's structure (used to find the highlight again when you return to the page);
- the address (URL) and title of the page where you made the highlight;
- the highlight's style and the time you created it;
- any note you add to a highlight;
- your styles, including any you create or edit, and which one is selected.
This data never leaves your device unless you choose to export it.
Notes are private to you. Nestmark never writes a note into the web page or sends it to the page, so the websites you visit cannot read what you wrote about them.
What Nestmark does not do
- It does not send your highlights, browsing history or any other data to the developer or to any server. The extension makes no network requests.
- It does not use analytics, tracking, advertising or telemetry.
- It does not require an account.
- It does not sell, share or transfer data to third parties.
Why Nestmark asks for its permissions

Exports, imports and read-aloud
- Export (Markdown, CSV, JSON) creates a file that is saved by your browser to a location you control. Exported files include your notes, so keep them somewhere you trust. Import reads a file you select, locally.
- Read aloud uses your browser's built-in speech engine (the Web Speech API). Nestmark sends the text only to that engine. Depending on the voice your browser or operating system selects, the browser itself may process that text according to its own privacy policy.
Deleting your data
You can remove any highlight, all highlights on a page, or everything, from Nestmark's popup, sidebar or overview page. Uninstalling the extension deletes all of its stored data.
Children
Nestmark does not knowingly collect any information from anyone, including children.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be published at this address with an updated effective date.
